Body Standards in Art History
Join us for another “…In Art History” series with Alabama Contemporary! This time, we delve into Body Standards in Art History in conjunction with the exhibition on view, You Could Be the One for Me, work by artist Stephanie Sutton. Sutton’s work goes beyond body neutrality and doubles down on positioning the fat body as a noncompliant, disruptive, visual identity with unique power. With the artist via Zoom and local scholars as panelists, we will discuss the how’s and potential why’s of body image standards and how they have fluctuated wildly throughout art history, touching on the ever shifting social construct that is the “perfect form”. Admission and refreshments by donation.
