Alabama Contemporary Art Center partners with likeminded institutions across the State of Alabama.
As a museum without walls, we pride ourselves in being a good partner. Exhibitions and programming span big museums and rural communities alike. Each location offers a unique perspective, and we site projects based on relevance and the needs of each of our partner organizations. We currently operate out of the AC Satellite while our main galleries at 301 Conti Street undergo redevelopment.

AC Satellite will function as short term office space for our staff while our main galleries at 301 Conti Street undergo redevelopment, and long term as a collaborative community studio space that houses Alabama Contemporary’s Artist in Residence program, education programs, and pop up exhibitions.

As a founding partner of the Historic Avenue Cultural Center (HACC), we plan programming and exhibition content that acts as a vessel to empower the community of the newly established Civil Rights and Cultural Heritage District. At the annual block party and other programs throughout the year community members share stories that reclaim the narrative of the neighborhood that was once dubbed “Black Main Street.”

ALABAMA AIR PARTNER
Wallace Center for Arts and Reconciliation in Harpersville, AL is a non-profit organization that promotes reconciliation, healing, and repair through arts, education, and cultural programming. WCAR’s board was formed around descendants of the enslaved and enslavers of the Wallace plantation in Harpersville, Alabama. WCAR mounted ACAC supported public sculpture “Paise House” in 2022 and we have been in relationship with the organization since that project.

ALABAMA AIR PARTNER
Mobile Medical Museum, Mobile AL is a ‘heritage house’ model with a collection, they preserve and exhibit medical artifacts and archives to commemorate Mobile’s prominent place in the history of medical education and public health in the state of Alabama and the Gulf Coast. We have been in partnership with MMM since 2018, and sought continually to build access to the museum for artist led research and programming.

ALABAMA AIR PARTNER
Pride of Atmore in Atmore, AL mounted a capital campaign in 2022-2023 and renovated not only their historic Strand Theatre, but also built a recording studio, artist residency space, multi-purpose rooms and computer lab in downtown Atmore. Atmore is home to the Poarch Creek Indians, with a rich native history and culture.

The Coleman Center for the Arts in York, AL is a contemporary arts organization that uses art to foster positive change, answer civic needs, and build local pride. We have been in partnership with CCA since 2019 through various program collaborations and the regional regranting program we co-run. They have an established artist residency program, gallery, and all up own 6 buildings in downtown York, AL. York is the heart of the Black Belt, with a rich agricultural history.
