Alabama Contemporary Art Center operates out of several locations. We pride ourselves on being a museum without walls.

Each location offers unique experiences, exhibitions and programming. We currently operate out of the AC Satellite while our main galleries at 301 Conti Street undergo redevelopment.

Alabama Contemporary Art Center

Currently under redevelopment. Located in the historic Press Register building in downtown Mobile, the center offers expansive gallery space for exhibitions alongside areas dedicated to education, performances, and public programming.

AC SATELLITE

AC Satellite will function as short term office space for our staff while our main galleries at 301 Conti Street undergo redevelopment, and long term as a collaborative community studio space that houses Alabama Contemporary’s Artist in Residence program, education programs, and pop up exhibitions.

ACE THEATRE

Under Development. Located on “the Avenue,” the Ace Theatre is one of the last surviving movie theaters that served all-Black audiences in Mobile. It was built in 1943 by James Huestis King, who operated King, Inc. and Southern Theaters, Inc. which also operated Pike and Crown Theaters.

As a founding partner of the Historic Avenue Cultural Center (HACC), we plan programming and exhibition content that acts as a vessel to empower the community of the newly established Civil Rights and Cultural Heritage District. At the annual block party and other programs throughout the year community members share stories that reclaim the narrative of the neighborhood that was once dubbed “Black Main Street.”
