ACAC ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
A two-year studio residency supporting creative research, experimentation, and new work.
Alabama Contemporary’s Artist in Residence (AIR) program provides artists with time, space, and resources to grow their practice and experiment beyond their typical work. The residency culminates in a public presentation or exhibition that shares the work developed during the residency with the community.

What is the ACAC AIR Program?
The Artist in Residence program is part of Alabama Contemporary’s commitment to supporting artists and strengthening cultural production in our region. By investing in artists, the program helps build community and expand creative possibilities for the South.
Residents receive dedicated studio access and support from Alabama Contemporary staff while developing new work over the course of their residency.

Studio & Facilities
The AIR program is housed at AC Satellite, a dedicated community studio and arts education space located in downtown Mobile. The facility supports resident artists through studio workspace, programming opportunities, and connection to the broader creative community.
Support Includes:

- A culminating exhibition or presentation
WHAT TO EXPECT
The residency is designed to allow artists the freedom to explore new directions in their work while engaging with the local community. Each residency culminates in a public presentation of work created during the program.
Artists use their time in residence to:
- Develop new bodies of work
- Experiment with ideas outside their usual practice
- Engage with community and public programming
- Present new work through exhibitions, performances, or talks
