Community Potluck & Exhibition Preview

In partnership with Troy University Department of Art & Design and the International Arts Center, Alabama Contemporary invites you to a community potluck dinner at The Studio at Johnson Center for the Arts to celebrate and preview a site intervention on Walnut Street! Artists Angel Fernandez & Winter Rusiloski make work that directly responds to and engages with the landscape around them. Seeing place as a site of narrative power, politics, and identity; they document time, conditions and movement; Winter through alternative painting practices and Angel through sculpture and performance. Through their residency at Troy University, Winter and Angel have mounted a temporary public art installation in a vacant plot at 204 E Walnut St, just a block away from our gathering. This site activation is a preview of a culminating exhibition planned to open at the International Arts Center this September, Transience: Trace and Erasure in Lost Landscapes.

Come break bread, meet the artists and hear from the curators and organizers on ways to use the arts and support artists in projects that are relevant in both a hyperlocal and global context. This dinner is free but RSVP is required and by invitation only.
