Poetry on the Avenue

November 19, 2023, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Historic Avenue Cultural Center
564 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Ave
Mobile, AL 36603

Join us for an afternoon open mic spoken word event hosted at the Historic Avenue Cultural Center. This special event will be hosted by Tiffany Pogue, the granddaughter of the civil rights activist, Jerry Pogue, whose legacy is honored in Remembering the Avenue. Tiffany brings her passion for poetry and her family’s commitment to social justice to create an ambiance that merges artistic expression with a rich historical context. All are invited to recite their own words, perform words from their favorite poets, or to simply sit and soak in the words of others. This event is free and open to the public, with and open mic sign up sheet at the door.

Through monthly programs in partnership with ACAC, the Historic Avenue Cultural Center provides an open platform for voices in our community to be heard, celebrates the history of the Civil Rights movement in Mobile, and fosters a strong sense of community and pride.
