How to Paint
Thursdays, 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Instructor: Colleen Comer
In this 4-week workshop, artist Colleen Terrell Comer introduces participants to the building blocks of visual art: mark making, composition and color. This course is structured to provide students with the skills and techniques necessary to create their own paintings and help develop their personal painting style. Comer will guide students through art movements/styles and break down techniques and historic context. (Ex. Impressionism, surrealism and abstract expressionism) Students should come with examples (on their phone or physical pieces) of the types of art that they like and are interested in. Students might finish with a completed painting but, more importantly, will have a better understanding of what makes a painting and how they can create their own.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced painter, enjoy a judgment-free environment that fosters experimentation and growth in your practice.
This workshop will meet each Thursday from April 25, to May 16, 2024 from 5:30 pm – 7 pm.

WORKSHOP POLICIES
- This workshop is for adult students only. You must be 18+ to register
- Due to equipment availability, this workshop is limited to 10 students and will be subject to cancellation if minimum attendance requirements are not met.
- Registration fees are fixed and will not be prorated due to missed sessions.
- This workshop is an introductory four-week course. By registering for this workshop, you understand that you must attend all courses for full access to the covered lessons and instructional content.
