Remembering the Avenue – Opening Day

Join us at the Historic Avenue Cultural Center to celebrate the opening of the newest partnership exhibition, Remembering the Avenue.

Remembering the Avenue is a civic practice exhibition mounted at the newly renovated Historic Avenue Cultural Center, and curated by Jada Jones through Alabama Contemporary’s Guest Curator Program. This ever-evolving exhibition, with the help of guided research and community interviews, maps the history, legacy, and possible futures for historic Davis Avenue.

The opening day celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. will include a ribbon cutting, food trucks, music, and festivities. Rev. Milton Saffold will welcome all with an invocation to start the evening, followed by performances by Ancienthangs and Catharsis tha Poet, words from the exhibition curator, Jada Jones and others, while the Excelsior Brass Band provides music throughout the evening.
